Description

Seller's Description:
8 DAYS ONLY - HERE IS A CHANCE FOR A REAL BARGAIN - NO RESERVE - DON'T WAIT TO BID - I SELDOM SELL ANY OF MY "VERY RARE" COLLECTIBLES, BUT HERE I HAVE A VERY RARE ONE AND A NICE AMERICAN COLLECTIBLE - This rare fowler was purchased at a gun show very long ago. When it was shown it to a friend who was a Collector of such pieces, he wanted it in the worst way. He asked about it at several succeeding shows. He never would tell what he knew and has since passed away. - - I have since come to believe this is an 18th century gun from around the 1750's, made by American gunsmith as a FOWLER. Later it was converted from flintlock to percussion. Shown in the book "The History of Weapons of the American Revolution" by George Neuman p. 140. The "LONG RIFLE" pictured is believed to be the same gunsmith of this being a FOWLER instead of a LONG RIFLE. - THERE ARE NO MARKINGS OR NUMBERS ON THIS GUN - IT IS ENTIRELY HAND MADE - THE 20 GAGE BARREL IS 33" LONG AND IS "OCTAGON" SHAPED ABOVE THE FOREND WOOD, AND "ROUND" BELOW - BARREL HAS A BRASS FRONT SITE OF 3/4" LENGTH - BORE IS SMOOTH BUT SHOWS EXPECTED PITTING - THE ORIGINAL STOCK STILL HAS ALL THE ORIGINAL BRASS FURNITURE CONSISTING OF 3 BRASS RAM-ROD BANDS, A BRASS TRIGGER GUARD WITH FINGER REST, BRASS BUTT PLATE, AND BRASS LOCK ANCHOR PLATE - ALL WITH A NICE UNTOUCHED MELLOW-YELLOW PATINA - THIS DISTINCTIVE BRASS TRIGGER GUARD IS IDENTICAL THE THE ONE ON THE RIFLE PICTURED IN THE BOOK ABOVE - THE ORIGINAL NOSE PIECE IS MADE OF "HORN" (LEFT HALF MISSING), IT APPEARS THAT ALL SCREWS ARE ORIGINAL BUT ONE FOREND PIN IS MISSING - THE PERCUSSION LOCK FUNCTIONS WELL WITH GOOD STOUT SPRING TENSION REMAINING - WOOD ON THIS GUN IS ACTUALLY IN VERY REMARKABLE CONDITION CONSIDERING THIS PIECE IS OVER "250 YEARS OLD" - GORGEOUS COLOR AND PATINA FROM YEARS OF HANDLING - AWESOME GRAIN AND FIGURE - THERE IS SOME DAMAGE TO THE WOOD AT THE FORWARD ROD BAND AND THERE IS A TAKE-DOWN CUT AT THE MIDDLE ROD BAND. (LIKELY FOR PACKING IN A TRUNK FOR TRAVEL OR FOR HIDING THE PIECE FROM THE BRITISH) SLING SWIVELS ARE PRESENT BUT THE SLING LONG AGO DISSOLVED FROM AGE - ALTHOUGH RAMROD SHOWS MUCH AGE PATINA AS WELL, IT MAY BE LESS THAN 250 YEARS OLD AS THESE WERE "WEAR" PARTS" - I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A NICE EXAMPLE OF A FIREARM THAT HAS LIKELY SEEN USE IN THE "AMERICAN REVOLUTION" AND ALSO LIKELY IN THE "CIVIL WAR" - THESE SELDOM COME UP FOR AUCTION - DON'T LET THIS RARE PIECE PASS YOU BY - Please review all the photos carefully and ask all questions prior to bidding so there won't be any surprises - email to buckstix@aol.com - See all my other very rare and collectible items. I've listed a lot of Civil War Rifles. Also rare shotguns, pistols and rifles, s&w - winchester - colt - German - Webley - military. Check my feedback and bid with confidence.
