Description

Seller's Description:

NO RESERVE!! Here's an interesting rifle that is seldom encountered. This is a "Lee-Speed" Sporting Rifle that was manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Company (B.S.A.) sometime around the turn of the century. Chambered for the .303 British, this rifle is the factory sporterized version of the military Lee-Metford rifle and was sold on the commercial market through the famous "Army-Navy Co-Operative Society" located in London. There is light engraving on the receiver ring, tang, butt socket, trigger guard, dust cover, and magazine. The rifle shows general wear from a century of use. The stocks show dents, dings and a few old scrapes...but are sound and free of cracks. The mechanics appear to be in good working order with the exception that the tang mounted safety lever is frozen and will not operate. The barrel features a matted rib and measures 24-1/2" in length. The rear sight has a fixed standing leaf calibrated for 100 yards; two folding leaves for 200 and 300 yards, and a folding ladder graduated to 1600 yards. The front sight is a windage drift adjustable bead with protective ears. The original magazine cut-off and sling loops are still in place. The bolt is numbered but does not appear to match this rifle. The bore is very good with strong rifling of the round-edged Metford type. The butt-trap even contains the original cleaning kit with pull-through and oiler! An interesting rifle that could have seen use anywhere on the European or African continents.
