Thread Title: "contact or relist"
(no avatar)

Hi Forum Panel.....Is there a safe and acceptable way to contact an unknown high bidder on a past auction that we relisted rather than haggleing with that buyer, as it did not reach our reserve price ? Or just relist again?

My 2 cents; If you had several bidders, I would relist it. - If there were only a few bidders, then also relist it. You may have more interest the second go-round!

Haggles work, but if you relist, then anyone bidding and anyone who had your auction on their Watch List will be notified of the relist.

Also, the fact that you have no feedback as yet, is probably keeping your bid traffic a bit low. Undecided

As it was hidden to me as to who that high bidder was, thats why i asked if there was still a way to contact them. I am a first time seller, thats why i don't have feedback yet. This was a unique way for us to sell our family eirloom with as much publicity as we could get ,yet safely and smartly. Would be a very long time before listing another item. AND its been fun !! Yep, thanks and aware of the fact that watchers/bidders are notified when relisted.

Oh I see now.  - Yes, There used to be a way for a Seller to contact a second highest bidder. But it was causing suspicion among some members who could not be sure of the lines of communication. And that option has been scrapped. So ya really can't contact a bidder, unless it is a "Haggle" and then I think you only have 24 hours to start it.

But in your circumstance, possibly being a one time seller, then certainly relist, and I would choose the longest run-time you are allowed for your auction.

Some bidders may ask you to reveal your Reserve Price. That is up to you. Personally I don't like Reserve auctions, but again, in you situation it's a good idea.

Good luck. (PS What's yur auction number? What cha sellin'?) Tongue outMoney mouthCool

Old Auction number was 10259948. When I relist will have a new number. Colt SAA 1st generation revolver. Thanks. Yeah, for sure I don't wanna do anything against the auction rules. Just thought it would have gotten a little closer to our reserve price.

mimi, if you have a reserve price, start the auction at that price as a Basic auction with a posted starting price. There are alot of people that simply do not like reserve auctions and won't bid. If you do not want to sell it under that price, start it there for all to see. It won't sell unless that number is met. AND, it will show people what you want for it, and eliminate the guessing game. You may also attract bidders that simply refuse to bid on a reserve auction. You won't lose anything at all, and may even sell the gun. Nice gun by the way!

Oh......rats    cause we already started the reserve again on Tuesday.  Guess I could pull it and reset. Seems no matter what there would be someone out there thinking the opposite. Probably people out there wondering what we are doing relisting all the time. Like said, new at this . Thanks, Grandpa had plenty a mile with her

mimi907 If you want you can edit your auction and state your reserve price which would be the same as a basic auction as the bidder would then know what you are willing to take for it. Like Petes said alot of folks don't like reserves as most folks who use them are not real interested in selling as their prices are so inflated knowone would be interested if they did post it but some also use reserves to price their stuff. They don't have a clue what it is worth so they run a reserve very high to see how bad people would want it. If you list it again just use the basic option, start the bid at the least amount you would be willing to accept and if you are fair your gun will sell. My .02

mimi, as Hagrid said, you can edit the auction even now to a basic auction and get rid of the reserve. You will not get hurt, the world will know your bottom price, and it will probably have a 90% better chance at selling. Good luck.

Wow !!  Thanks forum readers. Will most likely make the switch after consulting with mom and brother. However, I just took a peek into editing and there is no option to change the current running auction. So either I will end this one early or edit a previousley closed auction. This is bound to confuse or stress out those that have been following us. But, whatever it takes to get rolling so we can wrap this up and still appreciate those that have had some patience.  Yeff fer, I only have a small handfull of copied hisory and stories Grandpa wrote compared to a large box Mom has that even she has not completly read.
