Thread Title: "Shared block bidder lists and manipulation of feedback"
(no avatar)

I am on a shared block bidders list. I found out about this when I tried to bid on a auction and I was notified that my bid was blocked by the seller. I asked the seller why was I blocked. I knew I had never had a situation with the seller so I thought what  is this about could it just be a mistake or was the dreaded conspiarcy theory raising its ugly head. Well in the morning I had my answer HELLO SORRY I DO NOT CARE TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU AS YOU WERE KIND OF NASTY TO A RELATIVE OF MINE ON THIS SITE.  ALSO BY SENDING THIS E MAIL 4 TIMES IN 20 MINUTES OR SO JUST SHOWS ME NO PATIENCE.  HAVE A NICE DAY  I just wrote him and told him I did not email him four times Well, the truth of the matter was I was bidding on an auction and was the high bidder and was relying on the NRA grade for the firearm because I was using an android phone which has a small screen which did not show detail concerning the pictures. During this auction the seller recieved negative feedback stating a gun that a buyer had received was broke and was only good for a boat anchor. I then went to a friends computer and viewed the auction I was bidding on and saw dents in the side plate and other places on the firearm which would not allow the NRA rating the seller had it listed as. I wrote to the seller and told them that if there were dents in the side plate I would no longer be interested in the firearm and to please retract my bid. I received no response so I called the seller and was immediately told I was blocked and I was rude.I did call the seller and asked why was he trying to have me black balled he said he was not black balling me but he did share a blocked bidders list with other sellers. I was appalled that an FFL would take a personnaly vedetta against me and at the very least suggest and succeed in denying me the right to buy firearms from the west coast to the east coast. When the fact of the matter I was outbid on the auction and the seller did benefit from my bidding why would he limit my right to purchase firearms. If this is allowed then it is IMHO that the only feedback I can leave is positive because if I leave a justfiable negative, then I am at risk of being blackballed and put on undeniable blocked bidder list.

carbob - I'm not a seller, but I've been around here awhile and I've never seen or heard of anything like a "blocked bidder list".  Sellers?

Frankly, I don't know why you'd want to do business with someone who doesn't want to do business with you.  There are plenty of sellers who would be only too glad to take your money.

5th-they have list and it is alive and well!!!!Some here have bragged about using it.

I don't believe if you and a particular seller have a problem it sure don't  mean you are going have a problem with any others.

Read carbob's feedback, looks like a problem free customer to me.

I was not able to give all of the details because of the word limit.

It is just not doing business with the one seller. The seller has sent my name to other sellers to get them to block me so when I try to place a bid with the other sellers my bid is blocked there also.

One of my points is that there are at least two, that I have proof of, and remember the seller said there is a group of sellers that share block bidders lists. And if one blocks a bidder, he sends it to the others in the group and then they may or not block the bidder who knows but them. This sounds like gun control to me that we complain of.

It is my opinion that this group would block a buyer if that buyer left a negative feedback for any one in the group. IMHO that sounds like gun control and in some of the auctions the item is on consignment so that limits the owner of bids he may have gotten for the firearm.

I quess if I do not allow the tricksters to do there thing they will impede me.

carbob - Hunh.  Who blocked you?  If it ain't the government, it ain't "gun control", or anyway not as I understand it to be.

I know that some sellers know other sellers, just as a lot of us who are regulars here have gotten to know each other online and sometimes in person.  Could your name have gotten passed from one seller to another?  I guess it could have.  Should it have been?  I guess the sellers are the only ones to know that.  A lot of sellers don't take kindly to a bidder wanting to retract a bid once it's made and AA makes it pretty clear that once you place a bid, it's a binding contract between you and the seller.  Was the font on your phone so small that you missed that part when you made the bid on your phone?  And that kinda makes me wonder how you expected to see any flaws noted in the auction photos since they're about the size of a standard postage stamp, not even a special one.  Did you not think it a good idea to wait before bidding until you could see the photos on a full-size screen?  Just asking, mind you.   Undecided

There are 3 top sellers here that do share info.

They are all reputable, high feedback sellers. The way they see it if one has a problem with a buyer the others are not going to risk having problems.

At least the seller does not use the NRA grading system any longer and I am a combat vet I'll make the sacrifice for the masses just wonder if the rest of the troops will rally.

I was new to the site and AA said bid retraction was between the seller and the bidder and then I found out there is no bid retraction.

I also thought that since this is the official auction of the NRA the rating system would be followed how niave was I.

I inflicted no harm on the sellers auction I was finally outbid and the fact is that the seller benefited from my bids, so now he wants to harm me. How many auction would I of been blocked from if I would of won it and then returned it.

I will also admit that buying firearms on line is a leap of faith and I still lie awake wondering if I will receive two outstanding firearms so my point is I am not a problem but can get anxious waiting for the "payment received" to go up.

I have been going to car auctions for a long time and misrepresentation is always a deal breaker its better to say nothing then to say it something it aint.

carbob-you are aware that AA applies the NRA "antique" grading standards for modern firearms which is a lot more liberal than the standards for the NRA modern grading requirements.

I personally do not agree with the practice because,i believe,it's misleading and causes a more harm than good. I don't use it and i make it a priority to try and describe the item to a tee in the auction text.

Yea, I realize now and this was an antique so it did apply.

In the sellers defense he was out of town and someone other than he was minding the store and me be a newbie and all I knew was the other auction practices was to point out the problem as soon as it is known, but here I should of just waited to see if I was outbid. I just do not understand why he whats to turn it to a national incident, black balling should be reserved for the worst of the worst like someone who buys a $59 barrell that had full disclousure like you experienced and not because the seller is misrepresenting.

I was one of the people who would start bidding early and keep bidding until about 80-90 percent of what in would sell for. Now I am going to just wait until the end instead of driving the price up. And that will give me more time to research.
